I actually found myself writing an email to a friend last night explaining that I was going to be friendly and call but decided that I didn't really feel like it.

Yeah..I was thinking about you enough to consider saying hi but not enough to actually walk all the way to the phone, pick it up, search for your number, dial and then spend time hearing about your boring little life.  Maybe some other time.

No wonder my Facebook friend list is so pitiful.

The bottom line is I hate talking on the phone.  It doesn't matter how much I like you or how long it has been since I've seen you.  Juicy gossip doesn't do it.  Well, maybe if the mayor got caught fucking his bassett hound in the park.....again.  But even that can be said in a text message or email.

I was calling my son out on the fact that he never calls unless he wants something.

"If I called to say hi, you'd ask what I want and why I am bothering you for no reason!"

Touche.

I have friends that will stay on the phone for hours.  I had friends that kept me on the phone for hours.  Notice I said had.  I can't stand that "I know you have to go but let me tell you this one thing..."bullshit.  Unless it is goodbye, I don't want to hear it.

Even though I have probably ruined at least one serious relationship and a dozen potential friendships due to my avoidance of Alexander Graham Bell's instrument of torture, I wouldn't have done it any other way.

What about you?

Yeah, I hate talking on the phone. I love text messages and will text all day in loo of talking on the actual phone. I know I don't have anything important to say.

I'll talk simply because I am such a giving, loving and compassionate person, but I will also be working the crossword puzzle at the same time. Unless you are talking about my awesomeness, then I'll pay attention. So...give me a call.

Like Doc, I talk on the phone alot for work, so after hours it's usually the last thing I do. I love Facebook for that reason. Short messages are an easier way to keep in touch regularily. If I do gear up for a long phone conversation, I pour myself a nice big glass of wine first, lol.

It depends. Sometimes I love catching up with my roommate from college and talking for 3 hours on the phone about everything. But sometimes a text will do just as well.

Since I worked as a police and fire dispatcher for 13 years before transferring to administration, you can understand why I don't have much love for the phone. I'd rather email...texting just seems too time-consuming. Of course if I knew how to do it properly, it wouldn't take so long, I'm sure. I'm guilty of scanning caller i.d. before answering my phone just because I don't want to get trapped into a long-winded conversation. Not very sociable, I know.

I am seeing a pattern here. I guess if you're on the phone all day, chatting at night would be the last thing you'd want to do. I don't have that excuse though. I screen the calls just as hard if not harder at the office.

Thank god for cell phones!

I can say my battery is about to go dead and hang up when I've told the person, no names here, for the 100th time I gotta go.

My other excuse is I'm about out of free minutes and no way am I about to pay 45c a minute to bullshit!

I text my son a lot because then I can hear how drunk he is.

So in answer to your question, I'm with you I HATE talking on the phone.

I keep in touch with one friend by phone and that's because we have too much to talk about to text and she's not on the computer enough to make email an alternative. We've been friends since we were 4 (37 yrs), so she's worth it. :-) Otherwise, I screen and try to use it as little as possible.

I am not a big phone-talker. I think I get it from my dad, who - for as long as I can remember - has winced every time he has to talk on the phone...he never says much, still doesn't. The thing I hate most is the people that call to chit-chat while they are driving....so effin' annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
