Momma Mia Continued?

It wasn't my intention to make this a series but I had to share the exchange we had last night when I picked up the Princess from Mother's house after work.

"Chris...I don't want to hurt your feelings but...." and off she walked into the other room.

Oh shit, I thought. Here it comes. Is she going to tell me I am gaining weight or that I kept the teeth whitener on too long again? Am I going to be advised that she doesn't like my new haircut, nail shape or taste in clothing? Is my front lawn too long or did she see too many weeds in the front garden when she picked up the Princess? DOES MY HOUSE NEED PAINTING??? OH. MY. GOD. Just SAY it bitch!"

Ok, I am calm now...

She returns with a plastic bag.

"I don't want to hurt your feelings but those Gucci glasses you gave me for Christmas are just sitting here and I will never wear them so I am giving them back to you"

SCORE! I loved those glasses but being the wonderful daughter that I am, thought I would treat my mother to something that isn't 2 for 10 at the local Walmart.

"No problem," I responded. "I'd rather take them than have them not used."

I put them on this morning on the way to work and I was stylin'!

I quickly punched her number...

"Hello, Mom? Thanks for the glasses. I am going to come up with something really good that you're not going to want this year too!"

Gotta love her.

Oh, yes. I sometimes buy my grandma gift that I really want because I know that I will get them back in due time. I got her an ice cream maker for mother's day and by July 4th that sucker was in my kitchen.

It is mean, but the lady doesn't want any more stuff in her house - so she says. ;-)

You just reminded me that I need to get an appointment to get new glasses. I broke my spare set last week at the dog park. Thanks Christine

Bwhahahaha - what a perfect scheme!

I always wonder why, if you have to preface something with, "I don't mean to be rude," or "I don't mean to sound weird" do they even continue the sentence. If you know it's going to be rude or weird then just keep it to yourself! My boss does this all. the. time.

But in your case you scored some hot sunglasses! You can't buy moms nice stuff. They're just as happy with the Walmart special.

Karen..your grandma and my mom should go to lunch. they have so much in common. Actually, I rarely walk out of her house now without a bag of some crap or other that she doesn't want. As if I need another pair of cheap avon earrings or sample of shampoo that came in the mail.

Rod..glad I could help. Cute pup btw.

Vino..I am right with you on that. Although I have a bad habit of saying to my employees..."you might want to think about....." instead of just telling them what to do. It is probably very annoying to them.

christine..when she gives you something you don't want, you can always pass it on to your son or daughter...or SCM!!! (i'm sure he'd like the cheap earrings...lol!)

That's perfect! And if my mom lived closer I pull the same thing on her.

That is awesome, the things I get my Mom I would never want back and probably couldn't sell at a yard sale. Not that I buy her cheap gaudy stuff, her taste is just, um, too eccletic for me.

Backwards story....for probably 4 years, my mom gave me Grannie under panties for Christmas. I wear a very different style, told her very nicely that first Christmas...made no difference. After the 4th Christmas I was kinda irritated. I gave every single pair she had given me over the years (yup, I still had them) back to her for Mother's Day. I am probably old enough to be your mother so...not necessarily a generational thing. It's a mother thing. I'm Italian...she really was a Momma Mia. Thank you for visiting

I loved being the recipient of things my mom bought herself, then decided she didn't want. Some of it was just too fugly to consider, but a bunch of things were very cool!
