I hate Father's Day! Every year it is the same thing...
What do I get for a man that has everything he wants and will shove whatever brilliant gift I do come up with in a closet until Mother finds an occasion to regift it to someone else.
On occasion that someone has been me!
She's getting old mind you...
Of course I asked the patriarch of our dysfunctional clan and received the standard, thanks but I don't need anything.
I ask my mother and she gives some really good suggestions like socks and underwear.
I love ya Dad, thanks for always being there...have some tighty whiteys.
Nope, not feelin' it.
Of course I look on all those geeky guy websites because like every other man, he does like his toys. However, nothing seems new, interesting or exciting.
I was thinking of getting a satellite radio for his car but that would include a monthly subscription rate on top of the initial purchase of the equipment and quite frankly, I don't like him that much.
So..anyone come up with the greatest idea for the daddy, husband or sperm donor in your life? If so, may I steal it?
Please?

I make cookies for my dad - the man has everything and always asks for nothing! But, he does have a real sweet-tooth. I wish gift-giving was that easy for everyone else in my life...
since you mention getting old.. how about the edible bouquet!! lots of fiber and mom can not regift...Patty in California
Gigi..since he is diabetic, I think the cookies may make him think I am trying to collect on his estate a tad early.
Hello,
It's hard for me too sometimes but my dad at least tells me to 'just get him a card' when I would like to do more. Oh well. Dads will love no matter what. :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the comment. I agree. I should have just ignored the Anon's comment but I wanted to address a blogging pet peeve that most of bloggers have.
Have a nice day.
I'm in the same boat here. Last year I got my Dad a chapters gift certificate which he used. Yay! This year I sent him a bunch of lotto scratch tickets in his card. I know he will enjoy this, so I'm not going to sweat it.
As I get older, the gifts are harder to come up with. Not sure what I'm getting my dad and step dad, but Baby Fab got her Daddy some cute onsies that say " love Daddy" and "Daddy's Princess." Sappy, I know! Good luck!
How about a Happy Gilmour hockey stick putter with his favourite team logo on it
Yeah I am Canadian, what's your point?
Maybe take him to lunch one day or give him a gift card for someplace he likes to shop?
You're so right...the older they get, the more they have, and the more things they don't give a crap about too.
I finally gave up trying to find the 'perfect' gift and resigned myself to gift cards (I hate giving them)for car washes, places to eat, movie theaters,...those and a shirt ;)
sorry, we just do cards. it works for us.
;)
Sneak into his closet and re-gift him one of your old gifts. Saves money and he can re-store it for next year.
My sister and I took our Dad out for dinner, just the 3 of us for the past 2 father's Days. Then to a movie.
We always do stuff like that with Mom, but never Dad so we decided to take him out and he was thrilled to have us pay attention to him.
We never realized that he was a bit jealous when we took Mom out.
WE were hoping to do the same this year...if he is well enough :-(
My Dad passed years ago so I don't think he wants anything. I miss him ALOT. So maybe I'll buy myself something to feel better.
I have 2 fathers-in-law. Both are getting the same thing... DVD's and candy... except the one who is married to the MIL who doesn't care for me isn't getting a nice handmade card and I'll blog or read emails when hubs goes to visit him.
My daughters honey, because I like him and he is the father of my grandchildren, IS getting a handmade card, and a box of chocolate covered oreos. Unless I eat them all first. But having a delightful little candy shop nearby solves that problem.
Hubs wanted tequila. Family makes you want to drink. So I got him a big bottle of 100 proof liquid happiness and a bag of limes. He hearts me big time for being so thoughtful. ;)
There are some good suggestions here. Thanks kids. He likes pistacho nuts so I am thinking of throwing together a basket with some of your ideas and his fav snack.
and yummm at the chocolate covered oreos except I only like the white chocolate ones and I can't find them anymore. sniff sniff.
I don't know if he likes sports but does his town have a sports team? Not a national sports team necessarily as those are extremely expensive but something less costly? Or how about movie tickets? We ask our kids for those for every occasion as we love hitting the theaters when ever we can. Also among our faves are Borders or Barnes & Noble gift certificates. We sit at the book stores for hours. Love those.
All good ideas above. Men love the nuts. I might send my dad some nuts or something. My aunt and uncle have everything so every year for xmas I just get them gift certificates to a restaurant they've never been to before. They don't need "Stuff"
I'm getting The Asshole jack stands for the car and I got him a book on Harry Kalas. I was going to get him the Beer of the Month and include a reference to his alcoholism, but I thought that might upset the kiddies. Good luck honey. BTW, I brought him the sat. radio last year and he never uses it.
Dad died a couple summers ago, but, i remember when i was little, Mom always had me give him golf balls, socks, or a tie! teehee!
but what's anna giving SCM? (just curious...)
I dunno Lib. Should I suggest deodorant and mouthwash? She'll probably make him a card or something. (more than the POS deserves)
no, those are good! it's basically for you, anyway, right?
