Did I Say I LOVE Being the Boss Last Post?

I just totally lost my shit and reamed out an employee.

The company I run is a great company to work for. We pay above average salaries, give three weeks vacation to new employees, profit sharing and full medical and dental benefits.

Not to mention they get to look at my radiant smile every day.

I can deal with a lot of crap and do. When we aren't busy, feel free to surf the web, shoot the shit with an office buddy or go get yourself a coke. It's all good...

That is when we aren't busy.

However, when I see you in the break room for 20 minutes, followed by holding court in your office for another 20 minutes and find out you are on the clock. I get curious. When I start getting phone calls from business associates that have to use my back line because you're not returning messages?

I get beyond cranky.

Yes, I raised my voice in front of others. No it wasn't appropriate. Yes, I instructed your supervisor to deal with you because if I kept on, I would have fired your lazy ass.

How you slipped through the probationary period and still work here is beyond me. Keep it up girly, and I will make your fucking life so miserable, you will choose to live on Beany Wieneys rather than spend another day around my miserable ass.

Whew....I feel better.

I'm a boss and it is not all that it is cracked up to be most days. People are lazy and will get away with whatever they can. That's why there are hardass's like you and me to keep them in line. Good for you and don't feel bad about it. You give a mouse cheese and he'll want a glass of milk.

I agree with JFab and The Girl. Some folks are just lazy, lazy, lazy and will TRY to get away with doing the bare minimum. I'll be watching for updates on THIS one. Sounds like a "situation" to me.

The yelling wouldn't even faze me. I've been married too long for that to bother me. But you have a coke machine in your office? Got an job application handy?

Oh! Thanks for what you did? Should I tell everyone how sweet and generous you really are? Thought not!

CP..good call on keeping the alter ego secret..

Olly..it is headed that way. I am going to cut her hours and see what happens from there. There were other issues with her. She wasn't here a month when she screamed at this little 17 year old file clerk working after school and made her cry. I laughed yesterday when her direct supervisor said she was counting on full time employment so she can get the benefits. NOT going to happen. Unfortunately, I am stuck with her due to the economy since we didn't fire her during her first 90 days. She won't be able to find anything else.

Razor: Guess you have a HUGE turnover. Geez.

John Grey: You ain't seen nothin' yet.

ETW: I usually luck out with employees. Most appreciate how great this company treats everyone but there is always someone who needs to push.

JF: I don't even want to blog about the shit that went down when I was out last week..when the cats away....but I was going to let that shit go. Might just have been a bad decision. At least I shook everyone up yesterday. "Wow..I have never seen Chris like this..." one employee said while shaking in her boots.

Girl: You know it. Isn't it enough that no one does my job when I am gone? Do I have to come back to paperwork and babysitting duties??!!

I soooooooooooo know what you mean.
While being 'the boss' does have its perks....with all the BS you have to put up with (mainly employees and their own definition of 'work ethic' at times you wonder if the 'perks' are enough.

Doesn't hurt to 'go off' once in awhile in front of others...it does seem to have an overall positive effect...even if its only temporary ;)

chris...what you should maybe try is having a big stack of fresh job applications sitting on your desk all the time, leafing through them conspicously every so often, when she can see you...i'm a great believer in silent intimidaation!

While I do have my occasional entrepreneurial daydreams, quite honestly, I prefer to go to work at 8:30, get off at 5, and not worry about shit between 5 and the next day. I've worked for a lot of small companies so I have a good idea of what the boss goes through.

The idea is nice, but I don't think the reality measures up!
