Easter is coming and I have to tap into my savings account.

As children, my siblings and I figured out  that waking up early on Easter morning looking for hard boiled eggs that none of us particularly liked, was bullshit. After a year or two of mom and dad trying to recall where they hid the suckers as we watched on uninterested, a new plan was created;  buy the hollow plastic ones and fill them with cash.  Now THOSE were worthly of the time it took to find them.

If you're thinking we were selfish, greedy, little kids...good call.

As the years and generations have passed, those little hollow plastic eggs that contained pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters now are filled with good ole American paper money.  If an egg makes noise when shaked, it means someone has found the booby prize of coins.  Poor kid gets less than a buck for his or her trouble.  Awwwww.

So I am off to the bank to get fifty bucks broken into different denominations so I can honor the rising of our dear saviour Jesus Christ by encouraging greed and promoting capitalism.

Have a happy Easter or fun weekend depending on what floats your boat.

My son doesn't know about money-in-the-eggs thing yet. I hope he doesn't find out others do that! For now he's thrilled with jelly beans.

I would almost prefer the candy.

I find it more beneficial to teach them the true meaning of Good Friday and Easter. I tie them to a cross for the day, put them in bed with the door locked from the outside and see if they are still there on Sunday morning. Fun, fun, fun - and educational.

Not really capitalism - more like entitlements. Getting something for nothing. And after 30+ years of working for something that has dwindled every year due to inflation, I'm ready to start looking for MY eggs. When does the party start?

I disgree Jeff. They aren't getting something for nothing. They are working for it. Getting up early and looking. If they don't look, they don't get anything.

Sort of like those guys with the signs on the side of the road. They are definitely doing something for that money. They are out of bed, standing in the heat or cold, begging. May not be productive but it is certainly not the same as getting funds put directly on a food card at the first of the month or having a check in the mailbox.

christine--if u have the time & willpower to do it, you can always tape a couple cotton balls to the quarter inside the egg! good job for scm?

You know I remember when my parents switched from jelly beans to change. All it really meant to me was that I could upgrade to a better type of candy. LOL! Great post, Christine!
